The royal household staff is about 1200 people. I doubt this includes the staff at Balmoral and Sandringham which are "working estates". Ditto for Cornwall.

Here is a link for you that describes the 1200 people who make up the Royal Household.
http://www.royal.gov.uk/TheRoyalHousehol...rview.aspx
"Five Departments make up the Royal Household. These Departments are: the Private Secretary’s Office, the Master of the Household’s Department, the Privy Purse and Treasurer’s Office, the Lord Chamberlain’s Office, and the Royal Collection Department.

Most of the Departments are based at Buckingham Palace, although staff also work at St. James’s Palace, Windsor Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Royal Mews.

Some Royal Household employees also travel with The Queen on overseas visits and during The Queen’s stay at Balmoral Castle and Sandringham, since the work of the Head of State continues even when she is away from London."
"The Royal Household aims to provide exceptional advice and support to The Queen, enabling her to serve the nation and its people.

We employ approximately 1200 staff across a wide range of professions with varied skills including those relating to: catering and hospitality, gardening, finance, secretarial, media relations, marketing, human resources, IT, property surveying and maintenance, equine management, visitor management and retail, furniture restoration, curatorship and strategic planning and research.

As an employer we aim to provide employees with job satisfaction, opportunities for development, an excellent working environment and an enjoyable, team focused work experience.

In return, all employees are expected to attain and demonstrate the high standards expected of an organisation which serves The Queen.

The Royal Household also seeks to employ the best people from the widest available pool of talent and create an environment where everybody’s contribution is valued and respected.

An appreciation of the importance of social and environmental issues also runs through everything that we do. Just as The Queen and members of the Royal Family contribute to the community, employees of the Royal Household are also encouraged to act responsibly and pro-actively in this respect".

Cornwall is the Prince of Wales' property, not the Queen's.
