I want to meet him in person?
is it weird to be following someone on twitter/instagram who lives in the same area as you but you don't personally know them except for the mutal friend you have in common? I really want to meet this guy, he lives in the same city as I do so why not? The only thing is I met him online..?

If you're a girl and he's a guy, then just ask him. If you're a guy and he's a guy, then I don't know. And if you're a guy and she's a girl (which isn't the case here), then you need to be super careful cause she'll call rape on yo ass.

I don't mean to be rude but trust me on this.
You do not know this guy he might of had a criminal record in the past.
You don't know what he does.

There are alot of dangerous things that will happen if you meet him.
He can rape you, kill you , kidnap you and yes there is more.

It's not weird at all, honestly. Human beings naturally have curiosity and that is exactly why you feel the desire to meet him.
Have you ever tried to talk to him? Maybe comment on his photos or something? Getting mutual ground is the first thing to build a friendship. Try something like that. If he comments back, then move forward. If you've never spoken to him before, I wouldn't just go find him, he might react negatively.
You could also ask your friend to introduce him. Maybe he/she can break the ice for you.
