Fundraising ideas? Need to raise £3,890?
Hello Smile
So basically there is this trip to Ecuador , South America during the summer of 2014.
Its a summer camp where you go for a month, and stay in a tent (Not at all luxurious) but its to help build schools and the community. We help teach little children English and just do a lot of things that will benefit the community up there. We also get to visit the Amazon rain-forest and go Scuba diving.
I have about a year and a half to raise the money, but i have no idea how i'm going to do it!
There's only so much cake sales will make lol
i'm only 17 so i don't have money to pay for it myself..
We can also get people to sponsor us but i don't know who i could go to..
I'd really like to go, its worth 70 UCAS point and it will be during my summer holiday.
I live in wales and i think its going to be loads of school going together, obviously not everyone who wants to go will be able to but id really love to give it a shot! i've always wanted to help people around the world and this would be such great experience!
Do you have any idea on how i can raise the money? it works out at about £50 a week.
Ok thanks everyone! Smile
i know its expensive but its for the travel, food , scuba diving and probably healthcare Smile

£3,890 seems pretty expensive to spend 1 month in a tent.......

Anyway, how about a part time job?

Well, as £3890 is a very expensive charge for a months work of international development and education duties, unless you happen to be earning that amount every month (ie £46,680.00 per annum), I've come up with the following three stage solution.

1) The trip sounds like great fun (camping, foreign travel, rainforest visit, scuba diving etc) , so I would try and pay for approx half of it yourself from normal earnings or a part time job. You could also ask for contributions to your trip for Christmas (2012 & 13) and at least one birthday. If necessary you could always ask someone to put some of this on a creditcard for you until later as well ~ the extra experience from the trip would after all hopefully help you to get a good job later on.

2) To show there is more to your collected donations than just helping Ecuador, you could also develop some background info until the trip, detailing what you are learning about the country, and its development needs. To show that a UK student is learning more about the world, and the needs of the global economy, then shows that people would be supporting both an extended education for someone in this country (mention the UCAS points), and all the other benefits achieved abroad. You could do this by writing a blog, or some facebook content, or a twitter account, in order for people to be able to follow what you are doing. You can then give your details out on a free leaflet (print these on your computer), and provide links on all emails etc as appropriate. I would also suggest a look at Ecuadorian fairtrade exports at this stage, to show some of the constructive things they are already doing, as the UK economy is sometimes able to learn some very useful things from studying this movement.

3) Now you're in a position to do all the usual fundraising efforts, to raise the remaining money, making sure to refer to both the domestic and international gains as mentioned above, therefore demonstrating extra value for money. Immediate ideas include sponsored running and marathons, a collecting tin in your local community, a just giving page attached to the above other online content, and any other activities you prefer (especially after checking out some of the main fundraising websites). I would also contact the organisation arranging the trip to see what they normally see their students doing.

And finally when all this is successful, it's just down to you to enjoy the trip and experience, and then debrief everyone who supported you after you get home.

Hope this helps, PE
