Should I ask him to homecoming?

So I like this guy... and three of my friends have told me to ask him to homecoming. (Two of them talk to him often, and all of them know him.) The problem is... I'm not sure if I should. Don't get me wrong, I trust my friends and their advice, but I almost never talk to him. We've exchanged a few conversation, I do catch him looking at me sometimes, but we're only in two classes together. (English he sits on the other side of the room and gym we're busy swimming.) I don't have his number, we are friends on facebook, and we follow each other on twitter.
Should I? If so, when should I? Help!

You should woman up and ask him! Dont ever feel shy to ask a person u like out! Cause down the line u will look back and regrade it...You only live once! live life to the fullest.... go ask him out!!!!!!!!

Try talking to him but guys never like it when girls ask the guy out. Try to initiate some conversations with him in lunch though and maybe he'll ask you.
