acanthosis nigricans?
Whats the best way to get a page you have set up within Facebook Publicised?

I have set up the Page/Support Forum for the medical condition Acanthosis Nigricans, in the hope that people can share their stories and help one another, with ways in which to control this condition.... (Over Production of Insulin causes the body to gain weight. The excess insulin spills into the skin turning it black across the neck, armpits, groins inner elbows - It is a result of the body being Severely Insulin Resistant etc)

Besides broadcasting it here what else should I do?

Thankyou for your responses.... x
Having a facebook page is more about those who have the problem being able to talk freely with others who have the same problem. It is easy to feel on your own with this condition. What is more what works for one person doesnt necessarily help another, I'd like to think that having this page within facebook is a good way to spread the word because it is hardly a recognised condition within England, (not even my daughters GP knew what it was) and many people like using facebook rather than other forums... Its not cost anything to set it up in facebook either....
Also my daughter had to swap consultants to the top professor at the Childrens Hospital (the original consultant said he was not an expert in this field and didnt fully understand why she had chronic fatigue). Id like to know what other issues AN suffers put up with & how they overcome things ..... Smile

It typically occurs in individuals younger than age 40, may be genetically inherited, and is associated with obesity or endocrinopathies, such as hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, acromegaly, polycystic ovary disease, insulin-resistant diabetes, or Cushing's disease.

Endocrine

The most common cause of acanthosis nigricans is insulin resistance, which leads to increased circulating insulin levels. Insulin spillover into the skin results in its abnormal increase in growth (hyperplasia of the skin)

The most common cause of insulin resistance is type 2 diabetes mellitus. Other causes of insulin resistance include obesity, and polycystic ovary syndrome.

In the context of a malignant disease, acanthosis nigricans is a paraneoplastic syndrome and is then commonly referred to as acanthosis nigricans maligna. Involvement of mucous membranes is rare and suggests a coexisting malignant condition.

When seen in individuals older than age 40, this disorder is commonly associated with an internal malignancy, usually adenocarcinoma, and most commonly of the GI tract or uterus; less commonly of the lung, prostate, breast, or ovary. The stomach is the most common site. Acanthosis nigricans of the oral mucosa or tongue is highly suggestive of a neoplasm, especially of the GI tract.

Having said all of the above why should your Facebook be published when there is the internet to research it from the global companies that pay to give us this information.? I am not disputing the fact that you should have it published but it is a hard and expensive road to go down. Good Luck
