How do I get my priorities right?

How do I get my priorities right?
Instead of studying for my exams I sleep, watch tv or go on the internet. Its like I'm addicted to the internet. I'm on it the entire day. When I poop I take my phone in and then go on Twitter/Facebook. How do I have more self control? Even though I have my test tomorrow, there is this tiny voice telling me to study but other than that I'm completely laid back and not bothered.

That's a tough question amanda. Study hard and play hard is all I can say.

Completely alienate everyone you interact with online. Start massive Facebook comment wars, insult Republicans and Democrats, violate TOS, go nuts. I call it the scorched earth strategy. Who wants to log on to an identity that no one will talk to? lol

First you have to WANT to get your priorities straight. Being lazy gets you no where in life. Once you start focusing on the tasks you have, you will feel much more accomplished when you knock the tasks out. Seriously just study and get good grades so you can graduate and get a degree and get on with life!

Here is a nifty trick I use:

Stop and think about what you are physically feeling when that knee-jerk reaction kicks in to avoid studying. Focus on exactly what it feels like and where it is in your body. Get used to the feeling and remind yourself that just because you feel uncomfortable it doesn't mean that you can't study. It can take some practise.

Of course anyone would much rather be on the internet than study, but remember that you don't have to "feel like it" to get work done. And give yourself a reward for when you have studied!

Another idea is only study for 15 minutes. Then have a 15 minute break. Then study for 15 minutes, etc. But you CAN NOT go overtime or give yourself litte allowances to break the rules or you won't get anywhere.

I hope this was somewhat helpful.

Cut back on unnecessary activities to free up time. Any activity that does not produce a tangible result or lead you to success you can put on freeze. For example, cutting back on a movie or going on the computer to go on AIM half as often would suffice. But be careful about choosing which things in your life are important to you and which are not. To avoid common errors, first make a list of things (on paper!) that you normally do on a daily and/or weekly basis and put how much time you spend on each activity. Then, take the items on that list and lightly cross off the things that are useless in your life and you spend too much time on. For example, if you watch TV for 5 hours a day, you're definitely wasting some time in your life. If it has something to do with another person, specifically family, do not cross it off as doing this could affect the other person badly. Next, look at all of the things you crossed off and then at the things you still have on your other list. Does this seem reasonable? Could you live without the things you crossed out? Our main goal is to get you to stop spending too much time on useless things.

I think your problem is motivation, you gotta set up your goals in life and that will make you work hard in order to achieve them. Once you identify your goals then you gotta understand which are the steps towards them and its very likely that it will have something to do with studying and being productive. If you dont see any conection btw studying for that exam and achieving your goals is obvious that you wont bother to pick the books.

I dont think the internet is a problem by itself, its the biggest and most convenient source of knowledge that we have and allows you to understand pretty much everything. Problem is when people spend their whole day reading rubbish and chatting with the same people instead of searching for useful stuff. I think im adicted to the internet in a positive way, it helps me a lot with my work.

PS: I always surf the web while pooping as you do, nothing wrong about it...in fact Im doing it right now Wink
