Is this racism? Please answer!?
Hi. I have a lot of friends (they are white) and they are all following this racist guy on twitter and retweeting racist jokes about Obama (the guy also calls black people the n word and says that black people are still slaves). I am Republican, but I am part black. So it kind of hurts. My friends are not mean, to me, but I don't understand why they are nice to me and yet make these jokes about Obama being a slave and stuff. Are they being racist to me or do they just hate Obama? Please help!
Please read the whole question. I know it is racism, I just worded it shortly as a title.

Yes.

How exactly did you think this wasn't racist?

ADD: They are in essence being racist to you. Why are you friends with racists?

I think they are two faced! Why say such nasty things on Twitter, etc. about this and be as nice to you. They are racist and it is disgusting to use the ''n'' word. I am white and I still think it racist. Obama may use it, he is president, I don't like it and he shouldn't use it. Can you believe it, the president of USA is racist?? Absolute disgrace!!!! They are racist two faced people.

Depends what you mean. They don't necessarily believe the things they are joking about. But they are definitely racist jokes. If you feel offended, then tell them how you feel. I think in general people like to make fun of politicians in the US.

Yes it is...thats what's challenging about being black(or non-white)and having views that are a-typical for your racial group or minorities. Either your what they consider a "safe negro"or they have a complete disregard for ur feelings...actually they're just arseholes...

This is why I stopped being a Republican...

Those people aren't your friends. Don't put up with them, just ditch them. They are showing their true colors with these jokes, and given the right situation, they'd do the same to you.

One can dislike Obama without being racist, and one can even like Obama and be racist, but If the jokes are racist, then they're being racist. End of line.

While their comments are insensitive to you, obviously they don't feel this way about you. They just don't like Obama. Lots of mud slinging in the elections this year, nothing to do with you. There's negative remarks about Romney, too. Let's face it, if some people don't like someone they resort to name calling.
