Under a global economic crisis, are there courses or jobs that have become redundant or irrelevant?
Do we need to restructure our educational system to make it more responsive? Or more competitive in the international job market?

In the midst of this economic crisis, the jobs I think may (is) not be affected (e.g. lay-offs) are those in the government.

This global economic crisis is just a domino effect of what had happen in the mortgage sub prime in the US. US creditors failed to address their obligations to their financial institutions and the institutions to their investors. What happen now is that their is a whirling of money from one sector to the other and from one country to the other. Now, some sectors are limiting if not canceling their orders and their future plans abruptly change for survival. Courses now a days are more responsive to the needs of the changing world and their is no irrelevant courses. Filipinos are always a laggards in terms of quality education, what are we're proud for is our hospitality and english proficiency (thanks for the americans). The one year extension proposal for nursing and other 4-year courses is just a joke. What school does the CHED ordered for closure due to the poor performance in the board exam? NONE right. And how can they be sure that the propose 1-year extension can be at par with the world standard and the quality be maintained? Restructuring was in placed long before the Marcos era and changes was made every year. But who checked the textbooks use in the primary and secondary education.

all courses are still relevant. but if we cant find work based on our education we should consider re-training.

As the crisis goes on, jobs and professions not related to necessities will slowly slow down, or even disappear.
Regarding education, at this moment the most important function of education and media would be to teach people why this crisis has happened, and how we could change our own nature, behavior, and most importantly attitude towards each other to get out of the crisis, and prevent future ones.
That is because the main reasons for the crisis are nothing else but our selfish nature, exploiting the others, and the newly global, interconnected world, where this behavior cannot exist without harming and destroying.
