I need to promote a new self-help book, and hope to get online and traditional media attention, as well as TV and radio interviews. Do you know anyone who is good at getting this for unknown, new authors of self-help books?

When you publish with a publisher this sort of thing is worked out with your contract.

When you self publish you're on your own.

Some self publishing groups do offer some public relations assistance.

Both traditionally and self-published authors need to do a lot of the leg work themselves. so even if you do get a group to represent you still have work to do.

Write a press release. It's not that hard to do there are lots of templates online. Include information about you and your book, maybe send a sample or a copy and include how you can be contacted for interviews. Send it to all of the stations in your area. If there is a community talk show send it there as well.

Are their book fairs in your area? contact the organizers and find out how to go about getting your own table. Any conferences relating to your topic happening in your area? contact organizers in advance to find out if you can be a vendor.

Contact any organizations or groups that relate to the topic of book. Provide them with samples or a copy along with information on how to get the book. Ask them to pass this information on to their members.

If the topic of your book relates to University age students or Highschools contact the schools or Student groups about doing readings.

Do a reading at a library.

Contact all of your local book stores find out if they are willing to take your book either on commission or temporary basis speak to the owners or managers about doing readings or signings.

find a graphic designer to design promotional items for you. Bookmarks, posters, etc. Have these items printed for you to distribute.

I've seen lots of self published authors at flea markets and community events. Bring your books bring your promotional items and have at it.

Hire a web designer ( some graphic artists also do website work) have a website made if you don't already.

Set up a blog about your book, set up a Facebook Fan page or other social networking page.

If you want to make it as an author you need to represent your books.
