I would use friends and family to start with, as you are a printing business I would make myself some business cards and carry them with you everywhere you go, hand one to everyone you talk to.

Put flyer's up in supermarkets, universities, community centres etc Advertise in the local paper and on craigslist.

If you've got a website for your business, offer an online affiliate marketing program that gives your affiliates a % of the sale & start promoting your affiliate program to webmasters who needs such printing services (eg, freelancing websites, web designing firms, small business related info sites etc)

You won't see a sale immediately but eventually if your affiliate program is well managed & your services is good, it can be pretty viral and offer a steady stream of ready clients.

I am not sure about the door knocking route, but what about cold calling other business/establishments? You can certainly place calls to other business or those people that would benefit from your printing services, maybe schools and other small businesses who may want fliers and other announcement for their own. Do you have other friends or family members that you can network with? Spreading the word about a new business and maintaining a client base is the main factor in success. Do you currently have any employees for your business? You could always staff your employees with polos or basic tees with your company logo or brand and they can become a walking billboard on and off of their work schedule. You can go with a plain polo like I said such as this one, http://www.sharperuniforms.com/moisture-...-mens.html and have your business's name or logo embroidered on them. It gives a look of professionalism to your business and to your company. I hope this suggestion helps and best of luck to you on your printing business!

Hey first i would tell you to design a website for your Printing business. It could be a blog as well and describe all the services of printing you are providing for your business requirements.
Contact others people with the help of social media like Twitter and Facebook etc. It could really help for your business and join the forums for the printing area you cover and start Building your links to the website.
If you want to advertise with print marketing then Design2Express has the cheapest rates in the market with free designing and shipping.
They have a lot of Business Start-up packages which could really help your small business.

Regards
LEO
