Can some ppl help answer a few survey questions about personal internet use for my Media Literacy class?
Though it would be nice if you answer them all, you don't have to. Just the ones you think apply to you. The main topic is internet privacy and how you may have felt your privacy has been violated. Thanks for anyone's help. : )

1) In what kinds of ways have your privacy been violated through internet use?

2) Do you regularly have to divulge personal information to gain access to certain web sites?

3) Do you enter contests, play games, download files, or register on sites that require you to enter
your email address or disclose specific interests?

4) What types of web sites try to gather the most personal information from you?

5) Have you noticed any internet advertisements targeting your personal tastes?

6) Do you contend with increasing amounts of spam email?

7) What is your biggest complaint about being online and does it have anything to do with privacy?

1) It hasn't happened.
2) If they ask for it I don't sign up.
3) No.
4) I'm clueless...
5) No. But there has been ads targeting people in "my area" claiming that there are "hot girls" living on our rather barren airport.
6) No.
7) There are a few ads that my programs don't get rid of, but that's a minor problem.

1) In what kinds of ways have your privacy been violated through internet use? I'VE BEEN HACKED AND THEY TOOK CONTROL OF MY COMPUTER (MOVED THE MOUSE). SO I'VE FORMATTED MY HARD DISK.

2) Do you regularly have to divulge personal information to gain access to certain web sites? YES WE HAVE TO SIGN UP BY OPENING AN ACCOUNT BEFORE USING MOST OF INTERESTING WEBSITES.

3) Do you enter contests, play games, download files, or register on sites that require you to enter
your email address or disclose specific interests? YES. ALL THE TIME.

4) What types of web sites try to gather the most personal information from you? MOST OF THOSE THAT YOU HAVE TO SIGN IN (EMAIL, FACEBOOK, BANKING...) AND THOSE WHERE THEY RECOMMAND YOU SOME PRODUCTS (AMAZON, ITUNE, EBAY, ANY BOOKSTORE). ALSO LOT OF PROGRAMS AND ADDRESS BARS ON THE TOP OF YOUR BROWSER OR ON YOUR TASK BAR IN WINDOWS USES INTERNET TO DOWNLOAD STUFFS WITHIOUT ASKING YOU AND CHECK WHAT YOU'RE DOING WITH YOU COMPUTER AND ONLINE.

5) Have you noticed any internet advertisements targeting your personal tastes? YES. AMAZON.CA ITUNE, EBAY, CHAPTERS.INDIGO, BARNES AND NOBLE.

6) Do you contend with increasing amounts of spam email? LOT MORE THAN BEFORE BUT THOSE SPAM EMAIL ARE NOW WELL MADE (A FEW YEARS AGO THEY WERE LOOKING BAD AND SKETCHY. IT WAS OBIBIOUS THAT THEY WERE JUNK MAILS.)

7) What is your biggest complaint about being online and does it have anything to do with privacy? I DO MIND ABOUT ONLINE SECURITY AND TURN OFF MY COMPUTER WHEN I'M DONE. I TRY NOT TO GIVE INFO TO A COMPANY I DON'T KNOW AND CHECK THE LITTLE YELLOW LOCK ON THE ADRESS BAR TO MAKE SURE IT'S SAFE. WHEN I CONNECT ON HOTMAIL I SELECT THE SECURE SITE BEFORE ENTERING MY PASSWORD.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR WORK!
