working on a paper about internet/technology/text messaging...need to know how it effects people everyday, and how many people are addicted to their facebook or myspace pages.

MySpace:

"the site reportedly attracts new registrations at a rate of 230,000 per day. As of September 7, 2007, there are over 200 million accounts."

Facebook:

"As of July 2007, the website had the largest number of registered users among college-focused sites with over 34 million active members worldwide (also from non-collegiate networks).[3] From September 2006 to September 2007[4] it increased its ranking from 60 to 7th most visited web site, and was the number one site for photos in the United States, ahead of public sites such as Flickr, with over 8.5 million photos uploaded daily.[5][6]"

Any other related social networking website would show similar amazing numbers and ranks.... mainly because of the power that they give to their users to fully interact, communicate, and share in the Internet with a selected group of friends and new people from the same site...

These sites give the opportunity to do about any kind of communication and sharing posible between friends, co-workers (as with facebook), employees (as with facebook), school mates (as with facebook), and also the opportunity to meet new people within your "Network" which you increase by having new contacts on your "list" of contacts...

The websites survive and make profit from advertising.. which makes me think that advertisers are getting users from those sites to buy their products, use their services, and etc... making it also besides being just a communication medium... a actual MARKET... a new market that companies can target, which are mainly technology and Internet focused kind of people....

Hope that helps!

CHRIS
