Have to pay for Sprint features?

I just bought a new Sprint phone the LG Rumor Touch with the Everything Messaging 450 plan. I get access to the Web, E-mail, and Facebook options and I don't have a data plan will I be charged for using these services? Thank you.

Without a data plan, you will be charged $.03/kb for any data that you use. This amount tops out at $75.00 ~ not a pretty sight. These are called "Casual Data use Charges".

In fact, I sincerely recommend not using picture mail. Though many agents will strongly disagree with me on this one, I have fielded too many calls where picture mail is a possible culprit in my callers getting casual data use charges for me to have a different opinion. Some cellphone companies do not use the same protocols as Sprint in sending/receiving picture mail, so the picture mail is registered by Sprint as casual data rather than picture mail. Also, your access to data has to be open to use picture mail, and this increases your chances of mistakes.

If you do want these extras, you may as well upgrade to the Everything Data 450.

If you do not want these extras, or if you are not willing to pay the price, I suggest disabling your data altogether. This can be done by calling a Sprint customer care agent and requesting your data blocked, or by disabling it from the handset itself:

Main Menu -- Settings -- Data (and once there, there should be an option to turn it on or off, or enable/disable).

If you wish to keep your picture mail and minimize the chances of mistakes, then Main men -- Settings -- Data ~ Once there, there should be an option called "NetGuard". This option causes the phone to prompt you each and every time it is attempting to access the internet, and the user has to indicate "yes, I wish to connect".

In short? Yes, you will be charged, and it will not be pretty.
