What is your take on the reaction of people like Kirsten Neel?
"I'm moving to Australia, because their president is a Christian and actually supports what he says."
It is a knee-jerk comment of course. And no one who has said anything about moving to Australia in the last 8 hours because the election didn't go their way will follow through, even if they could. But this Tweet was so spectacular, it blew my mind. We've come a long way as a country since the 70's when Dame Edna could make a film showing us walking pet emus in the street and palm it off overseas as a Doco. But it seems we have a long way to go yet as well. Source: https://twitter.com/KristenNeel_ @Minty I thought that too at first, but as the Austrian President is an Agnostic member of the Social Democratic Party, I doubt it. @AnneM It was a spoof that was taken seriously by some people. Possibly due to the Dames admirable dead pan abilities. @Bingalee & zifir I'm usually one of the first to excuse and forgive someone as a product of their education, but with the internet at ones fingertips these days I'm not sure that slides anymore. Wait what? Australia doesn't have a president, it has a dictator. And he's not christian either. He's often mistaken for female as well.

Considering all the inaccuracies in that tweet, the sender probably means AUSTRIA.

I have no idea who Kirsten Neel is, but she sounds like a typical undereducated American who wouldn't be eligible to come here anyway.

Who is Kirsten Neel? Why is his/her ignorant opinion/view important? I tried the link but it is "not available at this time".
BTW, the Dame Edna doco was a spoof, anyone with a sense of humour would know that. Thanks, Sheila. Still don't know why her opinion counts for anything though. What else am I missing? |

The sheer ignorance of many Americans never ceases to amaze me. It was terrifying to see and hear all those Romney supporters in action in the lead up to the election. Some amusing tweets there on your link, thanks.
@ Anne, just click on the "Search" button on the link and you'll get there. |

Poor Kristen. There was a time a teenager could be so wrong and not end up being humiliated by thousand upon thosands of people. Perhaps one or two of the answerers here demonstrate that ignorance is not confined to US conservatives. The US seems to be a very inward looking country. It is probably not Australia that has a ling way to go. I suspect it is the US that has the long march ahead.
