Some people just have trouble with school, it's totally fine. It could help if you dedicate more time to studying each day.

I would expect these schools like 4.0 GPAs. Whether or not your accepted isn't based on just grades, what teachers think of you, classes you have taken, and other stuff like that are taken into consideration.

Getting into a University is not necessarily all about your grades. Your GPA would have to be at the very least a low 3. BUT, there are other ways to stand out- you want to be involved in at least two school related activities, and it is best if you have stuck with those activities for a while so that you can show dedication to something other then just your grades. Volunteering is another great way to stand out. One of my friends in high school spent a lot of time volunteering and ended up getting the Bill Gates scholarship. You also need to show that you are a leader somehow.

But, back to your grades... when I have trouble concentrating and when I have to study sometimes I have to leave my house and go somewhere else. Changing locations and being away from the clutter and distracting things in my house is great. Coffee always helps me study, but you don't want to be too addicted to coffee- consider drinking tea. It will help you feel more calm, but at the same time more focused. Making flashcards is also good way to memorize material. Also, having a dedicated study partner (sometimes hard to come by) helps to motivate me. Make sure to keep snacks with you while you study so that if you are really focused on something and get hungry you don't have to get up and leave your space and your focus zone- it may be extremely hard to get back into that. I would recommend a trail mix bar because it has nuts in it which naturally help your brain work more efficiently. Stay off of facebook! Get up where you are and stretch every now and then. If you REALLY hit a wall when studying, take a short 15-20 minute nap. Any more than that and you risk making yourself more sleepy. More and more companies are actually putting places to nap in their buildings because it has proven to increase productivity.

Finally, when you do get into college, make sure to stay involved in some things. They don't necessarily have to be directly school-related, but they will help you discover what you might want to do after college. In many ways, getting into college is the easy part.
