I'd recommend going to a good hosting company like http://www.srlnet.com/. I don't work for them.

They can set you up and tell you how to register your domain name - you know like yahoo.com. As for getting people to it - if you build it they will come. If it is of interest to people they'll find it in search engines. You can also post it to forums related to it on the Internet providing the forum says that's ok.

SRLNET also has a phenomenal built in site designer that simply walks your through your website creation. You add clipart, etc. This can get your feet wet with layout and if you want to go farther I suggest a course in website development at a local Career and Technical School.

Alright, this is quite a complicated set of questions. Why? Because there are so many ways to do it!

To answer your first question -

Another word for web address is your "domain." There are multiple ways to get this.

1.) Register for a domain only at a place like http://www.godaddy.com

By doing this, you don't quite have the ability to put content at the site, you only have the name.

2.) Register for a domain with a host. You can do this at a place like http://www.startlogic.com

When you do this, you are getting the website address that you want, and a "host."

A "host" is a company that will give you the ability to add content to your website - or a place inwhich you can upload your files.

How to put content onto a web page?

Again, there are a few ways to do this. There are 3 basic ways to do so - I list them from easiest to hardest.

1.) Start an account at a place like http://www.webs.com (They're services are free). They will walk you through all the steps. You pick out a template, add content, pictures, and so forth. It's very use to do.

2.) Use a Content Management System (CMS) such as joomla! (also free.) http://www.joomla.com Similar to the first way I listed, but a little more difficult. It's still easy to use, but you have more to take care of. You will still choose templates (unless you create your own) and add pictures, and so forth. However, you must have a domain and host already to upload it to.

3.) Register for a domain and host then create every aspect of the website. A basic website is written in HTML. If you want to learn HTML you can pick up books or go to http://www.w3schools.com. Once you're learned HTML or XHTML or PHP or what ever you choose to learn, you will write the markup, content. etc and upload them to your host.

How to get people to it?

This is an age old question that it constantly changing. My best suggestion to you is this - word of mouth. Tell all of your friends and family about your site. Post it on your myspace, facebook, blog, etc. If you become advanced in HTML look into SEO - Search Engine Optimization. It's the process of ranking higher in search engines. This will increase traffic to your site.

I hope this helps, good luck!
