Ebay purchase junked my Laptop...? PLEASE HELP? 10 POINTS!?
I bought an HP mini 1000 used off ebay last year after christmas and It worked great untill the charger got alittle... Junky...

So I ordered a replacement charger! The title clearly states "AC Power Adapter for HP Mini 1000 1010NR 1010 Battery Charger Supply Cord" So of coarse it's for the HP MINI 1000!

I got the charger in the mail and plugged it all in, but my laptop started quietly, but loud enough for me to hear about 5 feet away, HISSING. Like it was burning a CD kind of sound... But Then I left it because I figured well, If they made a mistake They can pay for it... and I just let it charge. About 40 min later I came back to turn it on. ( It should have been FULLY charged!) It went to the HP screen and SHUT OFF. This happened about 2 more times.

The charger did look differant than the picture... Instead of making an "L" shape, It was an "I". A straight line out. It also fit loosely in my port. Maybe they sent the wrong one?

I got up in the morning had left it sit all night hoping it would work, but NOW there IS NO RESPONSE WHATSOEVER. I have EVERYTHING! MY LIFE! On that laptop, and I can't even save that because I can't get my computer on!

This is the charger I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/AC-Power-Adapter...093wt_1230

So my questions are:

What's wrong with my laptop?
What can I do about it?
Can I make them pay for the damage caused by either false picture advertising or not for this model advertising?

I read their feedback... Read the negatives for yourself. Just click the Ebay link for the charger.

Thanks so much for the help!

The moment you saw it was not right you should hve arranged to return it for a refund, NOT plugged it in. It may not have done any damage, but to find out you need to buy a new one. Better to take it to the shop for a checkup.

I agree with Colinc. Or whatever his name is. When you got it, and found out it did not work, you should have arranged to return it. We can't tell what the problem is right now, so what I would recommend to you is take it into a computer store. They can run some test on the computer to make sure it is working or now working, and if it's not, you can pay to have it fixed or not.

Hello!

In my experience, when a laptop will not turn on or is turning on briefly and then shutting right back off there is probably a power short in the motherboard. If you heard a loud pop, or a sizzling sound, or if the fan was spinning incredibly fast, or the unit got really really hot, or if you smelled burning plastic, these are all symptoms of a power surge.

Just because your laptop will not power on does not mean that your data is lost. There are many certified repair centers who should be able to extract your hard drive from your mini and transfer the pictures, documents, music and other files onto an external flash drive, back up drive, and / or DVD's for you.

If you visit the HP website at http://h20465.www2.hp.com/GPL/Search.asp...ge_code=en you can find a repair partner near your address.

A computer expert *might* be able to recover the data by removing the hard drive and putting it into another computer, then saving it down to a USB drive for you. It would be expensive.

No, the seller is not responsible for your stupidity leaving the charger in all night when you heard the computer making a hissing noise within a minute of plugging the charger in.

Here below is possible cause and troubleshooting steps of laptop that can power on, hope it may help:Possible cause:
1. AC adapter failure.
2. Power jack failure.
3. Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution:
1. Test the AC adapter with a multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.
2. It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one.Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.
3. If replacing the AC power adapter and jack on the motherboard doesn't help, most likely you have a bad motherboard. Replace the motherboard.
