Iqon-Philips PC will not start up.?
I have an iQon - Philips PC that I have had for about four or five years now, it runs windows XP if that's any help. It will not start up at all, it ran out of warranty two years ago so I have opened it up to try and see what it is that is wrong, I do not have enough money to buy a new one so I am asking here what I should do to fix it and what is the problem in the first place? The PC itself has no signs of life, no light, no fans turning, nothing, and I am suspecting it is the PSU, but I cannot know for sure because I cannot isolate the different system as the plugs cannot be taken out, so I have not been able to see if it will start up without things like the HDD plugged in, I can't see any sign of damage on the motherboard at all, and I can't see any damage on any other circuitry, so I am at a loss, please help!

I remember iQon an Irish company went into liquidation a few years back .

Well, you can try getting out parts and see if it makes a difference.

First, take out the video card if you have one, and use the integrated one on the motherboard.

Then the memory, one by one. See if you get any beep if there's no memory at all.

If you can test your hdd in another machine, that's a good thing too, but it's not likely it would cause this.

Can you smell anything around the computer? Any smoky smell from the PSU? Try another PSU if you can.

I have fixed quite a few that have had problems with the Mobo so it could be the computer has basically died and that is the end of the computer ,and it would not be worth it to fix .

For a Healthy pc the POWER supply fan turns when
you push the on button.
if the power supply fan refuses to turn, then

1 Check fuses
2 Check power leads ARE PUSHED IN.
3 Check your mains sockets, or remove the extension lead
4 unfortunately power supplies have internal fuses that can blow. It is too dangerous to
...open up power supplies as they have charged components that can KILL so dont
... get tempted
5 just in case its really fussy, check, replace cr2032 battery.

just in case of something short circuiting. try these steps one at a time
remember for each start, if the power supply fan turns thats GOOD news.

1 disconnect the cables to the hard drive, and try a start. No difference, put em back
2 if you use USB mouse or keyboard, remove them in case they are faulty, try a start
...put em back if no difference
3 remove any other external device plugged into the pc, eg LAN cable, SPEAKERS,
..MIC, anything that could short it. If then it still dont work, its for the tip.

Unfortunately this does sound like a power supply issue. You can test it by following the instructions here http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthe...imeter.htm
