How do @replies work in Twitter?
I have a very simple question regarding Twitter. I follow a handful of people on Twitter. When I go out to their Twitter profile and open up tweets they have sent I see replies from other followers show up right underneath the original tweet. However, if I try and reply to the same tweet, it will show up like everyone else's but in a lot of cases if I go back later to look at that same tweet on their profile, my reply is gone but others are still showing.
Could someone very simply explain this process? If I reply to a tweet, shouldn't that reply always show up underneath the original tweet and stay there? If not, what determines what replies show up in the conversation? I assume a reply to a tweet doesn't have anything to do with whether that person is following me as I see a lot of replies to tweets where the originating sender wasn't following the person that replied.
