Hot to get memory off hard drive?
Without going into details and was wasting Your time my hard drive has crashed I have tried all the BASICS so unless you have the exact answer then please don't post. I have a external hard drive I took it apart so I can connect the bad hard drive into a USB port of another PC when I connected it my explorer crashes so this makes any hard drive repair useless. Also my PC pops up the hard drive as having only 99 gigs when it is 500. Is there a way to stop the crashing
thanks for the help but my external hard drive was on a switch meaning i could turn it on and off with a switch and i timed the switch with recover my files version 5 and it stopped the crash and repaired the drive i was surprised it worked

you most likely damaged it somehow.if you had left your external HDD alone, you could have purchased a small HDD or borrowed one from somebody, and backed up the data from there into the external drive.however,it's permanently damaged now.you'll have to try and get a professional to recover it,but from what i've heard it's just done for.

OUCH! I'm sorry that your hard drive crashed.

The short answer that you are looking for is, No. There is really no way to stop the crashing.

Your hard drive is defective and when that happens it can make all sorts of things go wonky. You also run the risk of continuing to damage the device more each time that you use it, which will make recovering your data almost impossible.

There are businesses who specialize in data recovery. Ontrack is one of those companies. Depending on the severity of the damage to your hard drive, the reason for crashing, and the level of difficulty of the recovery you may or may not be able to get your data recovered.

My best advice to you is to stop trying to get the data off your drive yourself, as you are most likely causing more damage to the drive.

Good luck!
