What does it mean when he says he misses me?

This guy and I hooked up at school but now he's been dating this girl for 4 months. We still talk a few times a week since it's summer now and today he replied to one of my tweets about me going on tumblr instead of twitter and at the end he put "miss you".

This is the first time in a while he showed any kind of affection (since my car accident in June in which he sent me a card). What do I make of this?

He's doing what a lot of guys do: Fishing.
He is with another girl, and so he sends these "miss you"s to all these other girls, to see which one will make contact with him. Whichever one goes for the "bait", then that's the one he will lead to believe that he wants to be with her again. Until he gets what he wants, then he will move on to the next better thing. Guys do this ALL the time. ALL THE TIME. Don't believe me? Consider this:

If he missed you TRULY THAT MUCH, he'd have broken up with the current girl, and made an EFFORT, by PURSUING you, to get you back in his life regularly. What he sent you was a crumb... I personally wouldn't respond. You have other guys to meet, that won't send you mixed messages like that... they would actually want to be with you in real time, and make time to do that. To make it happen... instead of be with another girl. Good luck.

Back up! If he was really missing you, he would've come to see you (if the distance isn't too much) Don't fall for him because he wouldn't be dating someone if he was really into you. When he says miss you he means just that and nothing more. I mean, I miss my cat, but so what? You see? Its not really affection so don't think it is. If he's now single, it means he's bored and is afraid of being alone. Men are manipulative, remember that. If he really, truly proves he is head over heels for you, then proceed. If not, its time for you to move on.
