How I get my basic website to show up on a search engine?

I have recently set up a basic free website with freewebs.com and am wondering what I need to do to get it to show up on search engines such as google? Help please (i am not very good with this type of thing)

i believe google and the lie work by how many hits your website has, so you probably could be on there but very low down. you could try sending google an email in case you have to register with them or something now, but i am pretty sure they used to find you if you had enough visits.

Links, Links and more links start by answering a question on here and post a link to your website in the resource box at the bottom like I have.
Your website will get indexed very quickly from your link here.

i just finished doing one for my husbands company. I found that you have to register your company on the search engines. Then once you have it is as the answer above said, you move up the pages dependant on how popular and how many hits ur website has. There are loads of ways to increase this, by making groups on pages like yahoo and facebook. also you can get ur family to make ur site their homepage etc.
You also need to make sure you have good key words in your first opening paragraph and page title.
Its like a complete sciene lol. One page i found that really helped was the link below. It had links to the search engine register pages too which will save you time trying to find out where and hows.

adding your site to directories which will increase backlinks is a good way.. you can start with a great list at http://www.directorieslist.com
