Investing in Facebook good or bad?
I'm 18 years old and I have about $317 dollars. How much can I invest in Facebook?
Where do I go to invest in it? Ads |

After the initial fall it will probably be good for the next hour or two, maybe drop a little, then close up.
I wouldn't buy it, $317 is enough for like 8 shares, plus you lose $20.00 on commission. Ads |

You'll first have to open an account with a brokerage firm. Many brokerage firms will require a $2,000 balance to open an account but there may be some discount brokers willing to go with less. Then you log on their website and issue a purchase order.
Is it good or bad, well that has to be your judgment call. It's claiming to be worth $100 billion. It's posting an earnings per share of 0.43 and the current 40.25 so ask yourself what is the value of something that brings in 0.43 per year and is 40.25 lower than that value. Obviously, there's speculation on future increases of revenue ( GM just pulled their ads ) but if nothing changes and it only produces 0.43 per year, what will you value it at? If you had deposited $40.25 in a ten year US Treasury bond at 1.71% per annum, you could expect $0.69 per year, how does this compare with the $0.43 of Facebook which won't actually be distributed to you but probably reinvested to grow the business. Mark Zuckerberg still has all the control of the company so will his management of the business benefit you the investor? I think you would be better off buying a Kindle and loading it up with some investing books. |
