A blog can be a bunch of different topics. Whether a blog has a niche focus or broad one has little bearing on its popularity. These posts may help you reach a decision regarding your blog content though:

People are more likely to follow blogs that are updated regularly, so at least once a week is a good goal.

It's good to take your time to develop a blogging identity that will keep you motivated to write. Improving upon your writing and expressing yourself clearly should be your first priority. Popularity is not just measured in total number of unique page hits or number of followers. You should look for ways to retain readership, beyond a one-time visit. Just visiting and commenting on other blogs helps (popular ones or not). Yet marketing your blog effectively will take time and effort, just like with developing blog content. NOTE: Some web sites or forums have guidelines (like Yahoo! Answers) regarding advertising and/or posting external links. Posting against site rules can get you classified as a spammer and/or banned. So, posting your blog link "everywhere" without restriction is not an effective strategy. Again, see the links above for more productive methods.

You may want to post future questions about blogging in a subcategory of Computers & Internet > Internet OR the Computers & Internet > Programming & Design category.
