You do not have to get the same one. People upgrade their video cards all the time. You will want to make sure it is compatible with your computer though.

The only way you will get a video card into most laptops is with an ax and a lot of duct tape. There is no card in most. There is only a video chip set that is soldered onto the motherboard. Only a few Asus, Dell, and Alienware models have tiny video cards wedged into the available space under the keyboard.
Here is a video card with DVI for the PCMCIA (54mm wide) slot: http://www.amazon.com/Vtbook-PCMCIA-Type...B000N2TDNA but no idea of performance.
There are many USB--to--VGA (or DVI or HDMI type) external video adapters for computers.
A few people have developed external video card boxes that link by the Expresscard slot (the 1.4 inch wide one in some laptops, not the 2.1 inch wide one). http://www.harmonicinversion.com/index.p...1&Itemid=6
And you need a power supply for the card, as the laptop will not power it.
