It depends upon the company in which you want to get yourself placed. If it is a software company whose core areas job includes Web designing then HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript will be a great advantage for you otherwise you can skip it.

That is a question to ask whoever is running the course.

"Digital marketing" could refer to understanding how to use things like Facebook, Twitter and other social sites to "market" your product. In which case, you would not be using HTML, etc. Or it could refer to actually designed web sites using those tools. The limited information in your question does not give us enough information to guess what type of course it is. Whoever is running the course should be able to answer that question for you.

To be honest in a word .. NO

I have html experience from college, im a very recent grad only a couple of weeks.
The knowledge i learned in college from doing website design (80%) is pretty much invalid because as you state its the css and above that are used. Dependent on the position involved you might be asked to do the newsletter which would indeed require you to have basic knowledge.

Html is not hard its a few hours and you can build a basic 4 page website. I have recently started an internship with a Digital marketing company and very little is on the above.

Im pretty much writing content, talking to people via the social media channels promoting an event that the company is working on and other Seo reading etc, it has been noted 90% of what you can learn is freely available on the internet anyway its only in the agency how you apply these methods and become quicker and more efficient..
