INSTANT 10 POINTS How has online gaming become popular over the years?
Okay why has there been an increase of people playing MMOs and playing online?

What has changed this to increase?

Why has online gaming become popular now even on this generation of console compared to last generation?
Also like ... the xbox360 and the ps3 and the wii now have online gaming ... what sparked this off?

people have been getting more involved, the more they play it the more they want to. games have been improving and people all have opinions, they tell there oppinions to there friends and those friends tell there friends and they start playing, as it grows the game makes more money and they make improvements. take World of Warcraft, over 8 million people play it and its still growing. blizzard has hired hundreds of people to work for them and look for errors in the game, as the game makes more money the workers increase. and it keeps growing. the game is 15 dollars a month multiply that by 8 million... well you can imagine how much money they'd make a month. this also is a respectable hobby and its fun and a "good" way to kill time.

Online gaming is fuelled by the fact you're playing against other regular people, rather than computer AI. This makes the online experience less predictable, more frantic and more rewarding when you compete.

Increase in advanced technology.

And also, the gaming industry has flourished and grew massively over these past few years alone.

Hello

The First Point would have to be that to go Gaming at a Club you had to be
Dressed up to get in.
You had to be a Member to get in.
You lost money whilst you learnt the game
They may Ply you with drink to affect your Abllity
In Las Vagas they have no windows so you get no idea of how long you have been there
Drinks cost a Fortune
If you start winning to much they Close the Table.

On-Line

Dress how you want
Sit Where you want
Drink What you want
Minimum Bets will be lower
Sit in or Leave When you want.

Internet speed, and computer capacity is the basic reason. Over the last few years these have both grown by a great deal and they get faster and better all the time. Just as technology is getting smaller all the time, it is getting faster, with better graphics, better memory storage capacity and therefore it's getting more realistic and more immersive. More people are gaming now than ever, not just the hardcore geeks and nerds who still reminisce about the 8-bit days, but so many more females, young kids, older adults are all playing games now.

Gaming is more accessible now, it's not just that all these extra people have suddenly started playing, it's because they're playing games designed for their demographic.

Online gaming is simply an extension of all that. More people are gaming and they want to connect with other gamers. Gaming used to have a stigma that only anti-social people used to play but now everyone plays games socially. Online gaming has been part of this and it's probably a clever idea from the gaming companies. They saw this stigma and decided to make online gaming 'cool' by offering people community, friendship and fun all in one package.

Today, I can log on to Little Big Planet, make my own level and share with friends and strangers alike, I can then log on to Metal Gear Online and compete against my friends, then I can log on to Resident Evil 5 and play co-operatively with a friend, then I can get on to facebook and organise a night out with my friends and my family, then I can text my friend to see if he wants to play football in the park. All these things are community experiences, and they've all come in an age where community is important, people have the technology to stay in constant contact with the people they know and even people thay don't. Because they can, they will.

The next-gen consoles all have online capabilities as they'd be leftin the dark without it. You can play and chat with your friends, and also recieve updates and extra content for games, which is just what was needed due to the size of today's games and the need to push a game further.

We are simply following the logical trend in technology and gaming and that's how we've arrived at this point.
