because unlike gaming sites, anyone and everyone can visit. on game sites, only a few who are interested in games will go there.

social networks give people to interact with anyone around the world. family, friends business minded, you name it! I communicate with my family members all around the U.S. for example.

What differs them from gaming sites? That's easy. They're social networks. They're designed primarily to put people in contact with each other, and keep friends up-to-date. This idea hold a lot of appeal, and for all their shortcomings, they do what they do well. It's kind of like mailing list meets chatroom.

Social networking sites are popular because they appeal to everyone.

The difference between them and the 'gaming' websites you talk about are that the gaming sites NARROW their target audience! It appeals to those people more, and gives them some grounds to join as they have mutual interests. However it alienates everyone who is not into gaming!

Social networks are now being used to their maximum strengths, by both individuals and companies.

It is quickly becoming a promotional tool where people are handing out their facebook profiles and twitter usernames as a means to get customers to 'follow' their every move and helps with new product/ service launches.

In summary, Social networking is expanding and Social Network Sites are reaping the benefits!
