Can't concentrate!! im screwed :'( help please!!?
ok so, i have a lot of trouble concentrating when im doing homework and stuff which really sucks! it started in grade 8 and ever since then its been hard for me! this year i was told by a doctor that i have a MINOR case of ADD (but its enough to call it that). i believe it because i do have a lot of trouble concentrating! i don't have hyperactive ADD, my minds just wonders... a freaking lot! Tongue

im 15, and i am going into my sophomore year this year! studying for me and doing homework is horrible because i can never concentrate and get it done!

this summer i have been taking a course online so i dont have to take it during the year and i have trouble concentrating especially since its on the computer and you know.. facebook, youtube, twitter, tumblr, etc!!! it sucks and i dont know what to do!!!!

i was supposed to be working on these 2 assignments the other day when my mom went out and i was "working" all day on it, but i literally did NOTHING! :'( it makes me so sad because i want to finish my work but i can't!

please please PLEASE help me if you can! thank you sososoo much Smile also.. just FYI, i dont take meds or anything, my parents don't believe in that.

Maybe you should start making yourself a to do list for everyday when you get home from school and make it of the things you want to accomplish that evening, tell yourself you arent going to watch tv or whatever it is you like to do until these things are done. I am an adult and i do this with my daily things i need to have done. I think you will find it rewarding when you make the list then complete it.

Stay in school and talk to the teachers, maybe if they could get you a study partner or something. if you school at home you wont do it at all.if theres no concern or assisstance go to the school counselor and tell them whats up and tell them, Im at a loss and need help, please. no help? go to the district office. we changed school and my daughter had teachers who understood and took that extra step to help her be sucessful. some teachers simply dontknow how to handle this but hopefully yours do, keep up the good work, first step is identifying and issue and second is to seek out how it can improve, and u did that, thats just awesomeSmile

Well, aside from disabling your wi-fi when you're supposed to be doing an assignment, I'm not sure what to tell you. Medication would probably help tremendously, but if your parents won't approve it then you have limited options.

A lot of my friends with ADHD self-medicate with caffeine, but I'm not sure that would work if you don't have the hyperactivity. Some self-medicate with liquor or other drugs but I do NOT recommend that. Alcohol damages the brain and anything else is illegal and would get you in a lot of trouble.

So here's what I suggest for now...disable your computer's online ability when you're supposed to be working on an assignment. Use headphones and pump music straight to your brain when your working to "fill up the corners" and block out distractions. The music can be any genre that works for you--anything from classic symphonies to video game soundtracks to country-western, if that's what floats your boat. I prefer instrumentals when I'm writing, because vocal lyrics can be distracting for me, but experiment a little to find the best mix.

In the meantime, work as best you can with your teachers. Let them know what you're doing, and get suggestions from them. If all else fails, get your school counselor involved. She may be able to convince your parents to give a low dose of medicine a try.

Watch tv and listen to the radio and text occasionally while you do homework. Giving your wandering mind outlets will help focus on what you are doing.
