How do I hide the tweets of people I follow on Twitter?

A family member found me on Twitter and I'm now following them but their posts have become pretty annoying. I don't want to unfollow them because they'll notice and it'l be awkward the next time I see them. I want to keep following them but I don't want their tweets to appear on my timeline anymore. What can I do?
