I have a few questions about twitter?
Hi im brand new to twitter, just made one. im following a few celebrities i admire...
i have a few questions about it.

how can i message a celebrity im following on twitter, like were they actually read it?
and do they respond?

also, people are actually following me, and i don't understand why?

1. First you have to make sure that celebrity is on Twitter. Then, go to your timeline (home) and in the "What are you doing?" box say: @usernamehere and then whatever you want to say. Sometimes they do respond, but the chances are slim that you'll get a personal response.

2.That happened to me too haha, I dont know, but you're getting followers so just go along with it. xD

a ReTweet (RT) from someone else, think of it as a forward in email
The @ sign basically is a direction, and is always followed by a username, for instance @icantinternet . By doing this, the tweet is addressed to this person. It can also be used as a reply. Beware, it is not the same as a DM, since @messages can be read by anyone else, and DM's cannot.
