a few questions about how twitter works?

ON twitter what does it mean to "retweet"? and what does it do?
and when it says to "reply" when i write something who sees it and can they write back?

Retweet: when you come across an a tweet/post which you'd like sharing igh your followers, click retweet and they will see it on your page but with info on the original poster.
reply: reply to that twent)post. nothing tricky there
