Is facebook and twitter a necessity?

So, I have recently found myself in an awkward social situation. I have been called anti-social, a motherf****r, and such for saying I do not have facebook nor twitter. I do not like facebook nor twitter. I text and skype with the friends I have and that's fine for me. I do not understand the facebook hype though, I read some articles that pick on people without a facebook page and make them look like psychopaths...

It is not necessary. People who choose to use facebook and twitter instead of really meeting people are more anti-social.

Nope, it certainly is not a necessity. I know tons of people who don't have either and they are just fine and totally socially acceptable. If you don't like using them, then don't - life is not about pleasing other people, but living it the way that you want to and doing what makes YOU happy.
