If I protect my tweets, can the people following me previously still see them?

I had people following me on twitter when my tweets were public who I didn't want to be following me. So I protected my tweets. Can everyone who was previously following me still see my tweets? Or do they all have to send a request?

If they are already following you then they will still be able to see your tweets even if you make them protected, only followers can see them but they'll already be following you. The only way I know of to stop them seeing your tweets is to make them unfollow you. You have the option in the drop down link on followers to block them (just don't report them for spam as well), then they won't be able to see your tweets, although you will obviously lose them as followers. You will still be following them if you choose to, so you'll still see their tweets.
