Is it good for a law firm specializing in family and child law to advertise in sites like multiply or facebook? or will that lessen credibility? would you hire a lawyer from there?

advertising in those types of areas wouldn't necessarily mean that you will lose clients, but you would also have people with a lesser income contacting you for help or for quotes.

and why not? the facebook is used by many people, also serious people like everywhere.........you should try it, and when you see any problem with it, just take off your advertising........ I think you should deal within, so you know the law :-)

At one time, advertising was considered outsidde the pale for law firms, but today, the canons of the ABA allow it.
There are more productive sources of business than multiply or facebook, however.
One of the best ideas, for instance, is free seminars in different locales. Promote to family and child welfare specialists in the public sector, who will hand out your flyers to their clients.
There's a pretty good (free) source of creative marketing ideas that a lot of professionalss--doctors, dentists, lawyers, CPAs, etc.-- use. It's a blog on direct marketing. Here is their site.
