How to text a girl I haven't seen since high school?

Ok, so latley I've been thinking ALOT about this girl that I graduated high school with last year. She goes to college out of state so I haven't seen her since high school ended. We were not really good friends but i would say hi to her like twice a week. I knew she thought i was nice and all because she would tell a few of my friends. Would she think its weird if I text her completly randomly one day " Hey ___, it's ____ from high school, you remember me?" And if so, how else should i say it? Remember I haven't talked to her in like 7 or 8 months. I doubt she still has my phone number so I don't want to creep her out. I kinda want to and just have a conversation with her so i can stop thinking about her all the time, but don't know if she will think I'm weird. She doesn't have Facebook or anything so I can't message her through that. Texting is kinda my only option. Would a girl be weirded out by this? Please help!

Call her on her birthday that would be the less creepy thing to do. If you manage to talk to her, talk about all the good times at school. Best way to talk to her would be a text on a holiday like Christmases or something. Good luck.
