It's not and never has been; throughout history, but especially since the beginning of the modern era, elites have developed techniques to control large populations. Today, the biggest tool of social control is television.

See, when you watch TV, your brain enters into an alpha-wave state, which basically means that your ability to think critically is suspended - instead, you're just being downloaded with a manufactured pseudo-reality every night.

I think that it is all market driven. The main purpose of the media is to sell advertisements, not to inform their audience. We had a few years of something that approached journalistic integrity, but that is all gone now.
