Is there a way to block tweets on Twitter?

On Twitter, I have 6 followers. When I send a tweet to someone, is there a way to block it from from 3 of the 6 followers?

Not as a status update but, on the right hand side of your profile there is “direct messages” If you click on this, you can direct message 3 of your 6 follower. Its like an email in that the only people that can see it are those you direct message.
