How the hell does Twitter work, seriously!!!?

I have no clue how to work it. People can only see your tweets if they're following you? Or if you do a direct tweet? Is this right?

Also some more explanation would be nice. Hahaha. Im a FB gal.

So basically Twitter is a site where you can tweet about "What's happening?" in 140 characters.

When you go to twitter.com/home while signed in, you will be looking at a timeline. The timeline has tweets from people you follow. Anyone (whether they follow you or not) can see your tweets, but if you are a protected user, you would need to approve people to follow you and view your tweets. When someone follows you, they can view your tweets in their timeline.

When you scroll over a tweet; you will see a favorite button, a reply button, and a retweet button. "Favorite" means that you favorite the tweet, and it will appear in your favorites on Twitter. "Reply" means to reply to the tweet. "Retweet" means to tweet another person's tweet so that your friends will see it in their timeline.

When you follow people on Twitter, you might wanna make groups of these people, so sometimes you can see only news tweets or tweets from your friends. You can make lists on Twitter to do this.
The "list" icon will appear on Twitter profiles if you are following the person, you can include that person on one of your lists. If you want your list to be private so only you can see it, you can private the list.

On Twitter, you can also "direct message". A direct message is a private message that you can send to someone who follows you and you also follow them. You and the other person are the only people who can see the direct messages. Direct messages are pretty much a private version of replies.

Many people use applications for Twitter (although, this is not necessary, as you can just tweet on the Twitter website), to tweet. I use TweetDeck. To upload pictures, you can use TwitPic. To do and make quizzes or polls you can use LOLquiz or Fun140. There are also fun Twitter games such as Spymaster, that you can play.

I am SOOOOO with you on this one Sophia. I'm an FB girl too trying to figure out twitter. I don't see other people's tweets. Unless it's just the "trending tweets" column. Thanks for posting this question - I was about to until I saw that you had already. lol =)

I still don't know how to see responses to my tweets.
