The days of Mao were responsible for 70 to 100 million Chinese deaths, there is no way any government should go back to those days. The CCP needs to move on and let the Chinese people rule their country.

Too late, Deng Xiaoping initiated the reforms which transformed China into a more liberal, socialist-capitalist open market state, private ownership and open competition has grafted its roots into Chinese society, there will be no way to turn back into a purely socialist country, especially since Communism has all but failed in global politics after the fall of the USSR.

China still retains an authoritarian policy on its economy and politics, with the right leadership, this centralised process gets results quickly, which is why China developed so fast during the last half century.

Once liberalism takes place, there is only going forward, there is no going back because the population won't allow it. Internet and social networking, with more technological advances in the future, freedom of speech and globalisation will once gain momentum, because things like the Great Firewall and banning Youtube/Facebook/Twitter can always be overcame - humans are simply too smart to be contained.

No, Maoist era, and many Chinese will agree, was an absolute disaster for China.

What China needs more than anything is proper rule of law and it's leaders held to account for the rampant corruption.
