What percentage of people of Congress/House of Representatives oppose SOPA? Will the SOPA bill pass Congress?
In case you don't know, SOPA is a bill proposed by some guy named Lamar Smith that will rid the Internet of copyrighted and pirated movies, games, music, and TV shows. So that basically means that sites like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Google, Yahoo, eBay, Tumblr, Zynga, and many many others will be blocked and go down the drain if you know what I mean. Now I think that this bill is complete BS and it will NOT stop piracy and copyright infringement as it will probably make things worse than ever. It is also hypocritical of the US to do something like this because what about the Bill of Rights? The First Amendment? The DMCA? It almost makes me feel embarrassed that I live upon a government that is even considering something this overdone because this is just over doing it. I don't mean to go on the offensive but something like this, it's almost Nazi standards. How could they do something like this to whats probably the greatest invention in our recent history? Do they even have the right to do something like that? Because if it's passed in the US wouldn't it count for everywhere else in the world? Don't any OTHER countries get to speak up on this so called "bill"? Something like this will mark the death of the internet. It will never be the same. Last time I checked something like this was called censorship. And if this passes it will go down as the greatest example of censorship in history. I mean they are certainly going overboard with this. Cuz if you were to post or watch a video of you singing along to your favorite song, showing footage of a game, or anything of that matter, you could not only get fined for it, but you can also get 5 years in jail for it. I mean, that's just cold. It just sickens me to see how idiotic and repulsive our government is being with this. I don't mean to sound unpatriotic with that last sentence I apologize but I'm sorry cuz it's the truth. Now i realize that this bill hasn't been passed yet and I know of the supporters and rejectors of this proposed bill. Its pretty much the Internet vs the Government. It's stupid for people like Nintendo, Sony, EA, and Microsoft to support this bill because I think that the Internet is one of the main reasons why people buy their products because you wanna get all the info you can on a game lets just say, you just look it up on sites like YouTube for info, walkthroughs, reviews, and things like that because it can help decide whether you should drain $60 on a game. Now if that stopped then they would probably be losing money. They might complain that they are losing money and piracy is to blame and they don't have enough money, I say BS ON THAT!!!! Last time I checked you were still earning money and still big as a company. Didn't Modern Warfare 3 make $400 million on its first day ALONE and selling nearly 10 million copies within that 24 hour period, and over $800 million in its first 5 days? Didn't Harry Potter 7 Part 2 gross nearly $500 million in 1 weekend and go on to be the 3RD highest grossing movie of ALL TIME? It just shows that these companies still well active and continue to make money, and now they want more money? These companies are acting like greedy, money hungry bastards. Now I know that piracy and copyright infringement is a big issue and I agree that it should be stopped, but THIS is NOT the right way to handle it. And there are also several other important issues in the world nowadays. How about doing something to fix our economy or how about try to do something about the violence and the terrorism nowadays or anything but this. It is simply a waste of time and money and we shouldn't have to go through with this bill.

Anyway, phew I wrote alot, I don't think this bill will pass however I don't know how it is going with the Congress. How do they feel about it overall? How many people involved in Congress are against it? How many support it? I read somewhere that 95% of American people are against it, but what about the Congress? Please answer ASAP and thank you for reading my question/tirade. lol.

This is some huge piece of work. I dislike SOPA a great deal as well. I doubt many in Congress support it, though.

You should contact me. I work with the Tiffany Briscoe 2012 Presidential Campaign (tiffanybriscoe2012.weebly.com). You can send me an e-mail at pacrevaux@frliberty.com. The candidate is one of the rare that sees IP as monopoly and one of the reasons of such high medical costs.

This could use a tl;dr:

It will pass eventually, but the SCOTUS should strike it down, as it is the copyright/trademark own who has the responsibility to protect their work, not the government.

im all for it..it's about time they took china to task over copyright and trademark infringement IMO...

and this is about china...and their one sided trade policies...

if Ebay, and others are allowing this...they are wrong..and SHOULD be taken to task ...

this is about CHINA...not about E bay...it won't shut down YOU tube...you tbe already prevents copyrighted materials from being posted...
as for downloaded pirated software? it's about time IMO...that they adressed this...

it has (pirating) alloowed CHINA to mass produce pirated windows programs for over a decade...

think about the AMERICAN jobs lost to this...

sorry..you're wrong...very wrong...

Well, so far it has little supporters (mostly the people who proposed it.)

But, the industry has thrown a curve ball and has said that without SOPA, the job market will continue to be hurt. Now, this has got some people thinking about turning.

So, I would email you reps.
