If an application like facebook is running, does that use up my data plan even if I'm not using it?
I just got a data plan for my cell phone and have no idea how it works. If I have facebook or an internet browsing page running but not directly open on my phone, is it running my data plan?

Generally, something like a Facebook app might use a little bit of data to update notifications etc. but it won't load data-heavy images and stuff until you open the app.
