How do I download applications on a Sony Ericsson?

I have just got a Sony Ericsson C510 and i have got applications; Windows Live Messenger, Facebook etc.

I was wondering if it is possible to download any other applications? if so, how? I'm on the 3 network by the way.

If anyone else is would it be to much to ask for a step-by-step guide? as i have looked online, on my mobile, but i have found nothing.

Yes it is possible to add applications to the C510. You can do it from the browser and the application will self-install when you select Download. It will need to be a .jar file.
You can transfer them from your PC as well. Use PC Suite in Phone Mode. On the left margin, select Editors, then select Files.
On the right-hand side is your phone memory. Open it and then select the Other folder. Put the .jar file here, then disconnect from the PC and open the Other folder in the phone. You should be able to select the file you want and then select Install from here.
