Audio problem with HP Envy 15 3021?

Sometime when the sound of facebook's chat notification sounded, my external speaker will not be playing any sounds and instead my laptop's built in speaker is playing all the sounds. After awhile, the external speaker will continue playing the sound again. Also whenever i'm playing Operation flashpoint Red river (a game), it will stop using the external speaker as a sound output but instead it will use the built in speaker in my laptop. It goes the same for headphone, earpiece as well. I have been finding a solution for this but it seems like i have not enough knowledge to fix this. Any kind souls out there?
