How do I get rid of a home?
My mother has a home in Louisiana that she is no longer living in. She is now living with me & my family & will not be returning to her home. The house is run down, old & below market. It still has a mortgage on it. How can she walk away from it without penalty? Can the mortgage company garnish her social security checks if she no longer pays anything else on it? Injury to her credit is not an issue.
Any suggestions would be helpful."

They will get a judgment against her. They can not garnish her social security though. They will likely wait out her life then take their money back from her estate. They also have the option of seizing her bank accounts.
