If your tweets are locked, can the ppl you tweet to read your tweets?

haha sorry if the question is confusing! But my tweets are currently locked so that only people I am friends with can read them. However, I was wondering if the people I tweet to (people who I am not friends with on twitter, but just people I follow) can read my tweets to them? Or do I have to make my tweets public for them to read my replies? Thank you!

they should be able to, being your friend means you allowing them to follow you or something like that... why not get a friend to test it out with you?

Had to test this one with my twitter! Logged into my personal account, unfollowed my band's twitter, changed my settings to private, and tweeted @the band's twitter. Logged into the band account, and couldn't see the tweet.

If your tweets are protected, NOBODY can see them without being friends - even if you tweet directly at them.
