TWITTER HELP PLEASE??

ok i am new to the whole twitter thing
and i want to know a couple things
like on alexa chung if you want to send somehting like a picture
or comment that she shows on the bottom of her screen
how do you do that and like when you want to comment to someone
like to my friend how do i do that
please help

ok well u know when u follow someone u can see their
updates but they can see urs, until they follow u
but if u send a direct message to them
which is when u send out an update u put "@(insert screen name)"
and it will show up in their direct messages
