How to send message on twitter?

Im new on twitter. How can i send a message to someone i'm following?
when i click Direct Messages there isnt any names...

Go to your homepage and click Direct Messages on the right side and they should be a box at the top and click the arrow and look for the person's name and there you go.

To reply to a tweet, you can just use @username and the user will get the reply. The same goes for sending messages, just put the @ in front of the username. This is a pubic message though. To send private messages, put a D in front, then a space, then the username: D username message.
