Why does my Facebook say that I have a new message when I don't? ?

I'm using the website through my phone and it happens everytime I log on or navigate away from my newsfeed and back. This is getting really annoying :/ It keeps making me wonder if I'm missing an important message. Is there anything I can do about it? Thanks

My Facebook has been doing the same thing. It also takes away messages or "likes" that were there earlier and then gives them back again later. I play several games, and it keeps giving me notifications concerning them, and when I go into them, there is nothing there. Some general message notifications appear when I go into a game (number of new messages) but then go away when I leave. Facebook is royally screwed up lately. I use only my desktop to visit that site.
