New twitter account, help needed!?

Please can anybody tell me how I use twitter, I want to leave posts on the accounts of people who I follow, can I do this or do they have to be following me?

they dont have to be following you just click 'compose tweet' and then write their twitter name for example @lucy (dont forget the @ or it doesnt work). Then just write whatever you want to post and it shows up on their account

Well, it's still possible even if they are not following you. Just use the @ sign(in twitter it is called 'mention') followed by their twitter username. That way they will surely see your message. For example,if it is Lucy you want to talk to, you can type something like; hi @Lucy. Make sure there is no space between the @ sign and Lucy. This will make Lucy blue in colour to draw her attention.Unfortunately, it is impossible to send them a direct message if they are not following you. Hope this helps.

If they do not follow you, @TheirUsername. If you want to do something more private, you can DM (direct message) them but they must be following you. Good luck!
